Storyline
As India celebrates its independence from Great Britain on August 15, 1947, at the stroke of midnight, a nurse switches two newborn babies in a Bombay hospital. Saleem Sinai, born to a poor woman out of wedlock, and Shiva, the son of a wealthy couple, are brought up with destinies that were meant for the other. As their lives intertwine in mysterious ways, they become inseparably bound to India’s tumultuous journey of victories and catastrophes.
