Storyline
Charlotte Salomon departs Berlin in 1939 in search of safety at the property her grandparents own in the south of France. Later war breaks, and Charlotte has to deal with her mother’s suicide, her grandmother’s sadness, and forgetting everything she left behind. Charlotte begins painting to combat her dejection and creates over a thousand pictures. She gives her body of work, which focuses on her past life in Berlin, this title: Is my life real, or is it theater?
