Storyline
Noble warrior Alatriste travels back to Spain to take care of his dying friend’s small kid Iigo out of obligation to grant his dying friend’s last request. However, things have drastically worsened at home, and as Alatriste tries to help the youngster mature while earning a living as a hired swordsman, he sees his nation disintegrating at the hands of a weak monarch who is unable to comprehend the inner workings of his own corrupt court.
