Storyline
Private Ernst Graeber, a German soldier stationed on the Russian front in 1944, finally receives a long-awaited furlough. However, on the road back to Germany, he discovers that his home has been bombed. While searching for his parents, Graeber meets Elizabeth Kruse, the daughter of a political prisoner, and together they attempt to navigate a world filled with hatred and find a way to survive.
