The series follows the lives of three siblings in rural Louisiana: Nova Bordelon, a formidable journalist and activist from New Orleans; Charley Bordelon, a working wife and mother in Los Angeles; and their brother, Ralph Angel Bordelon, a single parent struggling with unemployment and raising his son alone.

Blanche Dubois goes to visit her pregnant sister and husband Stanley in New Orleans. Stanley doesn’t like her, and starts pushing her for information on some property he know was left to the sisters. He discovers she has mortgaged the place and spent all the money, and wants to find out all he can about her. Even more friction develops between the two while they are in the apartment together.

Darcy’s lifelong love of reading has led her to the perfect job, working in a small Philadelphia bookstore. One day, while bicycling to work, Darcy crashes into Aidan – a sharply dressed gentleman walking his dog. Knocked unconscious, he’s rushed to the hospital where he falls into a coma. During a federal investigation into a local homicide, FBI Special Agent Terry McCaleb goes outside to address the media, but spots the so-called ‘code murderer’ in the crowd. He is approached by Graciella Rivers; her sister, Gloria, was murdered during a robbery; she asks him to solve the case.

In a small Georgia town in the 1950s, bigoted store owner Paris Trout kills a young black girl when his brother refuses to pay his debts. Lawyer Harry Seagraves arrives to calm the waters in court but is soon caught in crimes of his own, including a dangerous and doomed affair with Trout’s wife.

A year after Darcy ran over Aiden, his amnesia is gone but not their love. Now she’s gotten him a first edition signed copy of his favorite book, Patricia Highsmith’s Found in the Street, for Christmas, perfect since that’s where she found him – under her bicycle! Aiden’s also creating a wonderful gift for Darcy, a carved replica of her hometown, just like the one her dad carved for her mother.
