The film begins in Berlin, 2014. Adolf Hitler wakes up in the park where his former wartime bunker once stood. As he wanders, disoriented, through the city, he interprets modern situations and things from a wartime perspective. Everyone he meets assumes he is an actor impersonating Hitler.
In 1933 in Berlin, Anna is only nine years old when her life changes from the ground up. To escape the Nazis, her father, a well-known Jewish journalist, has to flee to Zurich. His family, Anna, her twelve-year-old brother and her mother, follow him shortly thereafter. Anna has to leave everything behind, including her beloved pink rabbit, and to face a new life full of challenges and privations abroad.
While the Nazi troops march into Vienna in 1938, the lawyer Josef Bartok hastily tries to escape to the USA with his wife but is arrested by the Gestapo. Bartok remains steadfast and refuses to cooperate with the Gestapo that requires confidential information from him. Thrown into solitary confinement, Bartok is psychologically tormented for months and begins to weaken.

Professor of marine biology Sigur Johanson, hired by an oil corporation to perform a biological study, finds a destabilizing ice worm that threatens the continental shelf and causes tsumamis. While whale researcher Leon Anawak seeks to explain why the largest ocean mammals are exhibiting exceptionally risky behavior, such as violently charging boats, molecular biologist Cécile Roche battles with the lethal bacterium polluting drinking water.
