Set in early-1830s Jamaica, this BBC adaptation of Andrea Levy’s novel depicts the story of sugar cane plantation slave July as she adapts to her new role as a house slave for the demanding Caroline Mortimer and the arrival of the progressive overseer Robert Goodwin. Their fates become entwined during the 1831 Christmas Rebellion and the subsequent years of societal change.
