Taking place in 14th century England, the film centers on Nicholas, a young priest who, having violated his vow of chastity, becomes a fugitive, fleeing from the scrutiny of his fellow monks. Assuming the role of an actor in a traveling troupe, Nicholas and his fellow performers come across a revelation that a young woman accused of murdering a boy is, in fact, innocent.
