Young Nancy Drew makes plans to leave her hometown for college after high school graduation, but finds herself drawn into a supernatural murder mystery when she and her four friends are witnesses (and suspects) to a murder and they all team up to find the person responsible.

On the Fourth of July 1996 in Southport, North Carolina, Julie James and her friends Ray Bronson, Helen Shivers, and Barry Cox drive to the beach. While driving along a coastal byway, they accidentally hit a pedestrian. The group decides to dump the body in the water and never discuss what happened. A year later in 1997, Julie receives a letter with no return address, stating, ‘I know what you did last summer!’.

The members of Mystery, Inc. solve the case of the Luna Ghost. At the airport, they are reunited with the rest of Mystery, Inc. and learn that Fred has become a popular author, Velma works for NASA, and Daphne has undertaken martial arts to avoid kidnappers.
