The story of Caroline Thomas, a woman who has waited 60 years for her pilot husband, who was reported lost in action during World War II, to return to her, is given to jaded reporter Susan Allison on Valentine’s Day.

12-year-old Ted Wiggins lives in Thneedville, a walled city where all vegetation and plant-life are artificial. Ted has a crush on environmentalist Audrey, and decides to impress her with a real tree. His grandmother tells him the legend of the Once-ler, who knows what happened to the trees. Leaving Thneedville in search of the Once-ler, Ted discovers that the outside world is a barren, contaminated wasteland.

Some years after the previous film, Dennis Mitchell is worse than ever. At the beginning of the film, he goes over to the house of George Wilson to offer him some pets as gifts for his birthday. They include frogs, lizards, snakes, insects, tarantulas, scorpions, mice, exotic mammals, and even a baby alligator.
